We Stopped Restocking the Hay Pile in January — Here's Why
We fed liquid feed for a long time to supplement these cows in the wintertime. The liquid feed was pretty labor intensive. You pump it in those tanks. We'd pump it out of the tanks, put it on a trailer, bring it out, and she'd say, dad, do we really need to be feeding this liquid feed because it's not real handy. You have to pump it in, pump it out, stir it, do that several times and it was like, what is this for? And the health on my cows just wasn't great. I was feeling like a lot of foot rot, a lot of they'd get sick on me and I wasn't really sure why, so I switched to loose mineral, am I not giving them the right one. I always wanted to make sure these cows get what they need and I I wasn't trying to starve a profit into them. So I seen it on Facebook. I when I first heard the price, you know, you get you get some sticker shock. I thought that must be one heck of a product. If they if they can charge that much for the product, called Rio, they gave me referrals of people to call. And, you know, I also prayed about it. I gave it to God and said, you know, God, lead me in the right direction here because this is important to me. This is our livelihood. He pretty much said, if we're gonna do this, we're gonna do this together. I was like, okay. We've had some tough weather. We've had some some dry summers, this cold snap we had, but I feel like the grass goes further in the summertime when you've got it, and I feel like the hay goes further. I also seem more content, not just wanting to meet you at the gate and just, you know, follow you out of the gate. I got a guy that helps me feed the hay, so I haven't really kept an eye on the hay over there in that pile. Usually in late January, we're restocking that hay pile. I was over there the other day and there's a lot of hay left, a lot more than what we normally have. They're more satisfied and more content. It's breaking it all down inside the rumen, and we're getting more out of the product that we're putting in them, let's put it that way. They explain kind of the Riomax tub is kind of like a probiotic. That makes a lot of sense, you know, giving your cows something that's gonna digest their food. Any cowboy can get the first calf out them. Takes a real cowboy to get the second calf out of them. Having them cows at home there, watching them every day cycle and breed back. I've had some troubles getting heifers bred back in the past. When them heifers calved, I left the bull in there with them just for that simple reason was I I I wanted to get them bred back as fast as I could. Now, them cows, they calved in when they calve in? March, April. Okay. Now, these cows, even though it's not ideal weather, I these cows are starting to calve back. That's how fast they bred back. I wasn't used to seeing these cows cycle like they were cycling. So yeah, now I wonder why I'd done that, but you know you live and learn. So I give the credit to the Rio as far as that goes. I did nothing different. If you believe in the product that you're feeding and you see it working out here in this business, peace of mind's worth a lot. Can't put a price on peace of mind. Yeah. On my cows, I had a tub with them. Yeah. On the weaned ones. And honestly, I mean, knock on wood, I didn't doctor one of them this year. And they all seemed to stay healthy. So When I first started looking into it was I thought, if I give four hundred and ninety five dollars for this tub and they burn that thing down, I'm not gonna be a very happy customer. We set it out there and that's what they would eat, a quarter to a third a pound. And another thing, you know, Twain told me was is that, you know what, if they eat more than they're supposed to, we back that up. So you couldn't be any more fair than that. I'm getting rid of my mineral. I'm getting rid of feeding these cows a supplement. There's hay savings, breed back, grass savings. You add all that up, it's really not costing you any more than what you've already spent in the past. It's just mind boggling when you hear four ninety five dollars or whatever on the Rio tub. It, you know, it kinda hits you, takes you off guard. But, I definitely think the tub pays for itself.

Fast Facts
- Ditched the liquid feed
- Quicker breed back
- Content cattle
- Hay savings
Jim Schiltz has been ranching long enough to know when something's not working. For years, he hauled liquid feed in the winter — pumping it in, pumping it out, stirring it on a trailer. His daughter Allie finally asked the question they were both thinking: Dad, do we really need to be doing this? After switching programs and still dealing with foot rot, sick cows, and heifers that wouldn't breed back, Jim came across Riomax on Facebook. The price gave him sticker shock. He called referrals. He prayed about it. Then he and Allie decided to try it together — each on their own herd. His hay pile that normally needed restocking in late January still had plenty left. His heifers were cycling faster than he'd ever seen. His cows were content, just grazing instead of crowding the gate. And Allie's weaned calves? She didn't doctor a single one all year. When you add up the hay savings, better breed-back, and dropping the liquid feed and mineral program — Jim says it's not costing him more than before. It's just going to one place.

Seen a lot of savings on our on our pastures. Generally, figure about five and a half to six acres of pair around through here. We've been even last year through the drought of that we had of twenty twenty, we did four and a half acres of pair on on ours, still had adequate grass left. Cattle came off in good condition. They weren't weren't malnutritioned, weren't low body scores. Been running pretty consistent, six body score better on everything. We're paying right around fifty dollar an acre cash rent up here is kinda kind of a common thing. You can knock out an acre here off of every cow that that saves a lot of money. Mean, fifty fifty bucks and you don't need four hundred another four hundred acres. It's another twenty thousand. So all of a sudden you got forty forty five thousand dollars in your pocket and you still have all the extra added benefits through the mineral, the health benefits of it. And it really saved on the last year too with the drought. We didn't think we'd get through. We put the same amount of number in the pastures and it didn't rain. We pulled it out and we still had old grass in the pasture. I didn't know the tub saved that whole deal. We had stretched it a lot because there was a lot of people selling cows and we didn't sell anything and we didn't pull them out early. And this year, most of the pastures around here are pretty much nothing. And we drove through everything. We still got, you know, shoots of grass and tufts of grass all over the place. Not a lot, but it we kept them. It made a huge difference. As far as paying for itself, you know, you got to feed and you start saving instead of a lot of guys are up to forty five, fifty five pounds. It was figured somewhere in there a big cow and even when they had the calf on them sixty pounds. So if you're feeding thirty pounds, yeah, it's gonna easily pay for itself without you see a bit. I mean, we, you can see it on the cow calf pairs too, bigger calves. We calve in May, June, and we're weaving seven hundred and some pound calves off of Dallas. So it makes, yeah, we can see the difference really easy. You just go through each step and see We're running more cows than we used to run on the same acres. That is a big deal. Because I used to on on my pastures, they're not big pastures, but on my pastures, I used to run twenty five head and they would have it grazed down to nothing in five months easy. Now I can run thirty, thirty five on the same pastures, and they can stay there another month longer easy on any given year. And this year, they got to stay two months longer, and there's still grass left over. Well, yeah, it's high priced, but it's like if if you can afford or not. But I think you can afford it because you cannot afford not to feed it because you can get your cattle to market faster. They're healthier. You could run more cattle on your land or you can stay there longer before you have to move on to an another patch. The cows are way healthier. They're way more content. They're happy. They're happy cows.

"We've been able to save enough hay with Riomax and we're increasing our production with Rhyzogreen. Both of those products have made it possible for us to have the confidence in knowing we're gonna be just fine.
Dan Reinke
Sheridan, WY
"I think it's a pretty cheap way to get way more out of your soil than what we do weithout. More out of what they eat, so they eat less, and Rhyzogreen gives them more grass."
Shane Keller
Valentine, NE
"...It's a win-win. You're attacking it on both fronts and you're nailing it on both fronts, so it's kind of a no-brainer. Why wouldn't you do both (Riomax and Rhyzogreen) at the same time?"
Bradley Franke
Cross Plains, TX
"I saw increased yields on every field I treated, every one...The worst yield increase was 17% up to 85%."
Todd Farrington
Collbran, CO
“The ground I sprayed versus the ground I didn’t was about 3 bales to the acre difference... $300/acre value. The product has more than paid for itself. This is something we’ll continue to do. It speaks for itself.”
Jim Lambert
Whitney, NE
“Went from 40 acres/cow in this drought to 30 acres/ cow . . . that’s $70/ cow/year!“
Raymond Rivale

"My disease in my calves has went down tremendously, and I attribute it to Riomax. That's the only thing I changed."
