Turboboost Results on Stocker Calves

It's, yeah, it's stressful in today's prices. Yeah. There's a lot of pressure to keep it all up and going. Well, I have a father that was a CPA and a banker, so you better make your butt that it better better make money or he'll be selling it. He'll tell us, you boys just need to sell out and put your money in the bank. So, yeah, it's everything. I mean, these things are costing a fortune. I mean, you know, four or five years ago, they were literally a third what they cost now. And so your risk instead of seven or eight hundred dollars is twenty four hundred dollars. You better do something to to maximize the health that whatever I mean, you can do. All these little things add up. And so one of the things that you can't help yourself on is sickness and death loss. So at the price of these calves, twenty four hundred bucks, buy quite a few tubs. I mean, that's one way to look at it. To me, what's the selling point of it is if it's up in their immune system and all those things, then that should make our medicine work better when we do have to doctor one. They should respond better and these have all responded very well. Lake Newcomb we're in Carter, Oklahoma and we run stocker calves and we did some work with Riomax on these calves trying to get the consumption rate and the health situation done with them and been real happy with it. I mean for us it's all about keeping them healthy. We've doctored a few like I'm talking four or five head, lost none none the ones that doctored responded great and gone right on. None of them got doctored twice and so that's a big plus because whenever they get doctored, you know, they they almost always roll back to the next bunch. They they don't stay with their bunch because they just don't gain with them. So they have to go back down to the next group to be back to the weight size they need to be. You're not getting the weight gain. It's they don't gain weight once they get sick for so long that yeah. It's costing you. You're gonna feed that calf another thirty, forty five days before you get to marketing than you would have if he would have stayed with his group. Forty five days with feed, could have fed something else if he would never got sick. We tested the tubs that we'd been on on the same number of calves and groups, but we gave one set of those calves the paste and the pull rate was three to one on the ones that didn't get the paste. Straight across the board, three to one. Let's just say you're paying seventy five cents a pound gain, you can figure it cost you forty five days if you gain three pounds a day. That many more days you're paying somebody for the gain because he didn't get to stay hooked with the ones that his buddies would have already been gone for forty five days. These will be nine hundred pounds in January when they get sold and they only got to stay on this however long you want to do it forty five days, sixty days, whatever you want to do. I mean, yeah, it's upfront cost but in the end hopefully it pays off. If you don't have them getting sick and you're not doctoring, we rope and doctor everything. A hundred and twenty head in the fall in one day. Their boys are saddled up in the calves at daylight and they won't get back to the pens. They will unsaddle in the dark and that's seven days a week. Well, you can cut some of that down and cut some of that medicine down and all that, you're gonna get a whole lot of that first original cost on your tubs and your paste back. I mean, I I could hire two less guys in the fall. I mean, the fall, I'll have four to six cowboys all the time. Well, if you could cut that back some, you could hopefully cut down on the help, the medicine cost, and all that. So anyway, it's it's I'm looking at it kinda like it's a cheater. You know, they don't ever get sick sick. Just like these, if we can doctor them and they get well, that's fine. I don't mind that at all. It's whenever you start doctoring them and you end up doctoring them two or three times and they end up in a chronic or dead, that's that's when it gets real expensive. I mean, on these, it was perfect. Never got doctored twice. I didn't doctor anything twice. It's worth every penny if we can get that done.
