How We Stopped Doctoring Calves Daily
We've had days, doctored thirty, forty, fifty, sixty. It seems like sometimes when it hits, it just it just hits. We buy a calf that's a really hard calf. We buy at the two seventy five pound weight, which that calf's probably three to four months old. It should still be getting milk from its mother. So it's having not only to come into a new environment, come through a sale barn where it's exposed to all kinds of new things, but now its diet's changing. We have some friends that put them together for us, consolidate from many different barns. Two or three days a week, we we get loads and then we background them, we feed them, and put them on grass. And as we get to week two, three, four on them, it it seems like we start getting into lots of sickness. There's lots of variables in that, but it's really hard on you. I mean, it's hard to do that day after day. It's not much fun seeing them suffering like that either. Then death loss, it's really not much fun dragging those things off. I don't touch any of the dead stuff. I don't even get anywhere. You had asked me about helping figure out some of the health stuff, and so, you know, you start searching for different things, and then the Internet learns. So they were putting videos up about Riomax. My background is in nursing. I'm always thinking about, like, people and their immune system and learning about Riomax and learning about how it works for the cow's digestion and to improve their immunity was really interesting. Just the science behind it is what sold us. So we started with the tubs first. They didn't know about the paste, and then we got our first case of paste in, and we started using it. And the pulls for sickness and retreats has been a lot less since using the Turbo Paste when they arrive. Which we have pretty hard data on that because she keeps spreadsheets on it. We're seeing probably a thirty percent reduction in first treats and then the same reduction for the second treat. The ones that we give the first treat to has been the last treat on a lot of them and that's exciting to know that you can doctor one and it can get better. And we rarely lose one that hadn't been doctored. If a calf costs two thousand dollars and the paste is costing you ten dollars, that's pretty easy math that that saving one and two hundred would Pay for it. Would pay for the paste. Kind of a change of pace than what we've been doing. Right? Used to, every day, there was some sort of not great news, and now we're actually making multiple days in a row sometimes where there's not any negative news. So that's been a a big change. That's right. And we're right in the heat on the group that we started, the Turbo Paste. We're in week five, six, seven, right in there on the average on on that group. We should be treating way more right now than than than we are. It's I think it's helping the digestibility of the transition into their feed in that first three, four, five, six weeks. They look absolutely amazing. Some friends, they give the turbo boost on arrival, and then they bring us the calves and they drop them in a pen. They're gonna make a circle around that pen. A lot of times, it might be one or two that stop at the hay, one or two that stop at the feeder, but then you're gonna have a whole lot of them stopping at that tub, and they sit there. I had another tub in there just to kinda give them another option in there and they didn't do that with that tub. They didn't stop stop on the tub and lick it like that one. Even whenever we turn them out in that next day into a bigger bigger trap, they always find the tub. You don't have to force them to eat it because they wanna eat it. If I don't have to spend all morning doctoring and then my evenings doctoring, and you can drive through the calves and you're you're like, man, these look great. Maybe I'm gonna watch that one. Maybe I'm gonna watch that one instead of being like, man, I have to get that one, that one, that one, that one. And then if you know if you're getting that one, that one, you know the next day you're gonna do the same thing because it it just it never stops. Being able to drive through a group of cattle that you know are right in their window when they're when they're supposed to be breaking and they're not breaking, feels really good. Have anything to add to that? Yeah. I mean, the math has to math, but it looks like it's good math. Math doesn't work, I hear about it. If the next group of calves acts like this and the next group and the next group oh, yeah. It would pay for itself. Quickly. Many, many, many, many, many times over.

- Healthy calves, less pulls, less death loss
For Robert and Meredith Martin, buying lightweight, high-risk calves has always meant battling sickness, pulls, and death loss.
They first started using Riomax tubs and liked what they were seeing. Later, they added Riomax Turboboost Paste on arrival for their incoming calves.
The results have been hard to ignore.
By tracking their cattle closely, they've seen about a 30% reduction in first treatments and retreats, with many calves recovering after just one treatment. Even during the weeks when sickness would normally peak, they're seeing healthier calves, fewer pulls, and less time spent doctoring.
Hear Robert and Meredith share their experience backgrounding high-risk calves, why they started with Riomax tubs, and how adding Turbo Boost Paste has helped improve calf performance during the most challenging weeks after arrival.

Seen a lot of savings on our on our pastures. Generally, figure about five and a half to six acres of pair around through here. We've been even last year through the drought of that we had of twenty twenty, we did four and a half acres of pair on on ours, still had adequate grass left. Cattle came off in good condition. They weren't weren't malnutritioned, weren't low body scores. Been running pretty consistent, six body score better on everything. We're paying right around fifty dollar an acre cash rent up here is kinda kind of a common thing. You can knock out an acre here off of every cow that that saves a lot of money. Mean, fifty fifty bucks and you don't need four hundred another four hundred acres. It's another twenty thousand. So all of a sudden you got forty forty five thousand dollars in your pocket and you still have all the extra added benefits through the mineral, the health benefits of it. And it really saved on the last year too with the drought. We didn't think we'd get through. We put the same amount of number in the pastures and it didn't rain. We pulled it out and we still had old grass in the pasture. I didn't know the tub saved that whole deal. We had stretched it a lot because there was a lot of people selling cows and we didn't sell anything and we didn't pull them out early. And this year, most of the pastures around here are pretty much nothing. And we drove through everything. We still got, you know, shoots of grass and tufts of grass all over the place. Not a lot, but it we kept them. It made a huge difference. As far as paying for itself, you know, you got to feed and you start saving instead of a lot of guys are up to forty five, fifty five pounds. It was figured somewhere in there a big cow and even when they had the calf on them sixty pounds. So if you're feeding thirty pounds, yeah, it's gonna easily pay for itself without you see a bit. I mean, we, you can see it on the cow calf pairs too, bigger calves. We calve in May, June, and we're weaving seven hundred and some pound calves off of Dallas. So it makes, yeah, we can see the difference really easy. You just go through each step and see We're running more cows than we used to run on the same acres. That is a big deal. Because I used to on on my pastures, they're not big pastures, but on my pastures, I used to run twenty five head and they would have it grazed down to nothing in five months easy. Now I can run thirty, thirty five on the same pastures, and they can stay there another month longer easy on any given year. And this year, they got to stay two months longer, and there's still grass left over. Well, yeah, it's high priced, but it's like if if you can afford or not. But I think you can afford it because you cannot afford not to feed it because you can get your cattle to market faster. They're healthier. You could run more cattle on your land or you can stay there longer before you have to move on to an another patch. The cows are way healthier. They're way more content. They're happy. They're happy cows.

"We've been able to save enough hay with Riomax and we're increasing our production with Rhyzogreen. Both of those products have made it possible for us to have the confidence in knowing we're gonna be just fine.
Dan Reinke
Sheridan, WY
"I think it's a pretty cheap way to get way more out of your soil than what we do weithout. More out of what they eat, so they eat less, and Rhyzogreen gives them more grass."
Shane Keller
Valentine, NE
"...It's a win-win. You're attacking it on both fronts and you're nailing it on both fronts, so it's kind of a no-brainer. Why wouldn't you do both (Riomax and Rhyzogreen) at the same time?"
Bradley Franke
Cross Plains, TX
"I saw increased yields on every field I treated, every one...The worst yield increase was 17% up to 85%."
Todd Farrington
Collbran, CO
“The ground I sprayed versus the ground I didn’t was about 3 bales to the acre difference... $300/acre value. The product has more than paid for itself. This is something we’ll continue to do. It speaks for itself.”
Jim Lambert

“Went from 40 acres/cow in this drought to 30 acres/ cow . . . that’s $70/ cow/year!“
Raymond Rivale

"My disease in my calves has went down tremendously, and I attribute it to Riomax. That's the only thing I changed."
