Many cattle supplement brands across the country offer numerous different formulas, designed specifically for various areas. After all, there is a huge difference in forage quality across climates and environments. From the long, washy grass of Florida, to the short, stout grass of southwest Saskatchewan; the cold far North, to the dry Southwest, cattle receive varying nutrition levels from their forages of different locations.
And that’s why ranchers ask, do you have a specific formula for my area? It’s a great question, and it’s something we must accommodate. But Riomax® does it fundamentally different from other brands in the market.
How do Riomax® tubs function in different regions?
Firstly, what are the factors that need to be considered? There are many differences in environments all over the nation, including:
- Geographic locations.
- Annual precipitation.
- Elevations.
- Cattle Breeds.
- Grass Species.
There are many more, but these are the main differences that we must be respectful of.
Riomax® does not have 100 different tub formulas for all these different areas. So, how does it work?
Forage Balancer®
Riomax® uses Forage Balancer® technology, which is in every single tub we offer. How does it work? Based on the balance of their diet, cows will self-regulate. For example, if you live in an area where the grass and forage are of high quality, the cows will self-regulate down on Riomax®. If you happen to live where the grass is washy and low quality, the cows will self-regulate by consuming a little more Riomax®.
No matter where you live and what kind of quality your forages are your cattle will self-regulate their intake between 1/8 and 1/3 of a pound (the guaranteed consumption range of Riomax®). They will adjust their intake to suit their environment.
Of course, it doesn’t completely account for gut fill. If there's no grass out there, a tub alone is not going to provide everything. But, wherever there is sufficient gut fill, of any quality, your cows will self-regulate on Riomax®.
Rather than having to choose between hundreds of different formulas to accommodate a variety of different forage qualities, the Forage Balancer® technology enables cows to self-regulate themselves. It’s all about efficiency!
